The Hiatus & Two New Collections

Whew, I can't believe it's been over 5 months since I have blogged.....about anything! Time and living life are two sure factors that will send time running at the speed of light. The holidays are over and Atlanta has decided to invite old man winter a little early, like since November! I realize that my jewelry is more about the joys of making art than the selling of art in my world. To cram my mind constantly with the need to come up with new creations sometimes stunt my ability to find that much desired inspiration. Taking a few months off to recharge that desire has yielded some great works from my hands and I can clearly see my growth from one batch to the next. I try to push myself with loads of work, even though I have noticed I don't churn out as many pieces as I used. I think another reason for that is there's a higher level of thought processes now and discernment for who this piece will eventually live with. My hiatuses allows me that time for thought and for reflection along with keeping close to what matters so much to me, family. I know that it's late, lol, but I at least wanted to share the inspirations behind my latest collections, "An Amaretto Fall" and "A Bing Holiday" 2013 collections. Well, I did say back in another post that procrastination is my Achille's Heel but......lets see what I can do with 2014. Without further ado, here's my two latest collections. I hope you enjoy!!

An Amaretto Fall Collection by Divinite' Jewellry
Phoenix Fire Copper & Biwa Stick Pearl Necklace. An Amaretto Fall Collection 2013. Photo by Porchia Arnold

An Amaretto Fall collection came about as I thought of this bib style necklace I designed back in 2009. I wanted some earthy colors but also, a Neo Soul kind of feel to this collection. All of the pieces in this collection were named after some of my favorite Neo Soul/Contemporary artists and attributes related to this genre of spirit immersing music.

The first item I made in this collection is pictured above, The Phoenix Fire biwa stick pearl and solid copper necklace. From the moment I purchased these beads back in April of 2013, I knew immediately what I wanted to do with this necklace. I didn't start on this piece until August and I see why I waited so long. Due to the fragility level of these beads, I had to carefully hand thread each bead due to the impossibly tiny holes to feed the thread through. I couldn't double the thread due to the narrowness of the holes. I just wasn't sure if this necklace would even come to life because of that major factor. Well, it took me a little over a week to complete this piece altogether. After it was said and done, I couldn't do nothing more than just stand back and marvel at it. The warm burnt tips at the ends of the beads truly resemble that of burning embers, very reminiscent of the Phoenix rising from the ashes with fire dripping from its fire tipped feathers. The solid copper ball pendant just added to the overall climax of this piece with the detailed sun star clasp to finish it off. This is hands down my favorite piece from this collection. Orange is one of my best colors and this piece here wears it the absolute best!!!!

A Bing Holiday Collection. Divinite' Jewellry

A Bing Holiday 2013 Collection is a collection filled with items of color and items that are lighthearted fun; timeless. The first entry of this collection was actually made for Full Figure Fashion Week in New York back in the summer and was made to be worn by the illustrious Nikki Mims Patterson, fashion blogger at Southern Hollywood Productions, LLC. She was so very sweet to ask me for pieces to wear at this fashion show and I was very happy to oblige and assist her in accessorizing her fabulous persona!!! She has a bigger than life personality and I wanted something that would accentuate that fact but not take away from it. Nikki sent me a picture of this gorgeous vintage inspired peachy salmon gown and that picture instantly popped this bracelet design into my heart and mind. The bracelet needed to be big, blingy but CLASSY not Hip Hoppish. When I designed it.......it was all that I imagined. She looked AMAZING with this bracelet on. The first draft of this bracelet was a bit big so I later revised it. The cheerfulness and the vintage appeal later allowed me to see that it truly should be reserved for the holidays or any special occasion that celebrates the rejoicing and love of life, thus.....the name of the bracelet......It's A Wonderful Life, named aptly from the movie it's self with the beloved James Stewart and Donna Reed. It is a wonderful life indeed if you look at what you have versus what you think you don't. This bracelet is now a signature staple in the Divinite' Jewellry collection.

Kazuri Beads Earrings Divinite' Jewellry

The Amel Larrieux Kazuri beads (handmade by a cooperative of fabu women in Africa) dangle earrings were another piece that began as a concept in early April of last year. The concept of the name came from the artist herself. Her spirit has always exuded a calming energy and I have been following her since the days of Groove Theory....."Tell me if you want me to, give you all my time, I promise I'll make it good for yooouuuu", lololl...... I can't sing but that used to be my JAM back in the day. I have her all throughout my droid and I love her to this very day!!! The Greek matte gold plated coins I found provided just the perfect contrast that I needed for this piece. They are lightweight just as her aura shares and the earrings have a slightly worn look to them which I can dig. I have decided to make these earrings staple but I must order more inventory first,:-).

Wire Wrapped Bracelet Divinite Jewellry
Ledisi Wire Wrapped Cuff Bracelet. An Amaretto Fall Collection 2013. Photo by Porchia.
The Ledisi wire wrapped cuff bracelet was my first introduction into wire wrapping a bracelet. So, to first start off, I named this bracelet Ledisi because not only is this singer the BOMB.COM, she has a bit of a purple hued aura to me and this bracelet spoke that name into my atmosphere. I had some left over garnet and amethyst that I wanted to use for this bracelet. The concept I thought would be very hard as I originally had in mind that this bracelet would resemble a rain forest in both colors and looks but.....this is what my hands decided to go with and the end results were very pleasing. Its an adjustable bracelet and very eye catching to say the least. Very different from my normal design of bracelets. A good turn that I will continue to work with.

I had some pieces that weren't able to make into these collections due to time and further reconstruction. I never release a piece until I am happy with the construction and how it sits on our lovely frames. The pictures I needed to take for these pieces must be taken on a person to get the full effect. So, you will see the Zap Mama necklace, Honey Molasses necklace, Mizz Prissy and Lady Tiffanie earrings along with a few others in my Spring and Summer 2014 collections.

Well, as usual, something else is always calling to be done and worked with. It's time to clean up the house and get some errands done today, :-). I will leave you with a few other pictures from both collections. I hope you enjoy the photos and don't be a stranger. Leave me some feedback. I'd love to chat with you!

Happy New Year!!
